The top-class panel discussion at the trade fair K in Düsseldorf demonstrated that international trends such as sustainability and smart manufacturing have also been incorporated as core topics for Taiwanese companies to expand and maintain their international competitiveness. "The Taiwanese industry is well prepared for the requirements of Industry 4.0 and the necessary system integration," said Hui Li Chiu, Director of the Industry Marketing Department of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). Four of the approximately 120 Taiwanese exhibitors demonstrated this at the Expert Talk, by presenting their product strategies and current technologies. First of all the Fu Chun Shin Group (FCS), an established manufacturer of injection molding machines. The company meets the requirements of the industry with an innovative production management system "iMF4.0 (Intelligent ManuFactory)". It combines mold, machine and material management based on the international communication protocol OPC, thus enabling the immediate display of overall equipment efficiency (OEE) information. The production manager can promptly grasp the production status, significantly improving the productivity. The Huarong Group also scores with its own production management platform: The Taiwanese manufacturer of injection molding system, equips its machines with "HFM", which collects and stores real-time production information completely autonomously, including an early-warning system in the event of anomalies. As a result, production can be intelligently automated and optimally controlled. Conventional systems, many of them still based on manually recorded employee information on paper, will be replaced by such database-driven systems in the future, taking the plastics industry to a new level of efficiency. The fact that smart production solutions from Taiwan enable a new level of automation was impressively demonstrated by another trendsetter company at the TAIWAN Expert talk: Multiplas presented a portfolio of smart injection molding systems, from the fully automated production line for shoe soles to six-axis robot applications within a single production cell. In addition, the Taiwanese supplier do not just rely on innovative production processes, but establish themselves also as a high-level solution for sustainable handling of plastics. As an example of Polystar took part in the Expert Talk. The recycling machine manufacturer is currently setting up a new production plant in Tainan, in the south of Taiwan, in order to meet the growing demand. Thanks to the technologies applied, the company has further optimized the processing step from the compactor directly to the extruder, a combination of vacuum pump devices enhances the installed double degassing system. In the filtration step, the company relies on, and a hydraulically controlled two channel system, allowing continuous operation during a filter change. "Taiwanese companies are definitely able to compete, both in terms of quality and innovation," summarizes Ching-Yun Huang, Director of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany, emphasizing the role of Taiwanese companies in the plastics and rubber industry at the TAIWAN Expert Talk.
